SMOKIN' BIG 4 RAFFLE!

Tickets are on sale now for the annual Smokin' Big 4 Raffle!  Cash, guns, and TV's!
Tickets are $20 each, and contain four numbers.  Good from July 1st through September 30th. Winners determined by the 7pm Big 4 number (first draw only).  If no winner is sold, teh prize will be given at a later date.

POSSIBLE ELECTRIAL FIRE IN THE 31 BOX

Around 1pm on Saturday January 20th, Tanker 19 was dispatched to Bali Hai road in Silver Spring Township, for a possible electrical fire.  Responding with three (Driver K. McClure, Chief Bartolo, FF J. Bowman), the Tanker was the third piece on the scene.  Upon the crew reaching manpower, Command held it to Companies 31 and 33.  The Tanker returned to the station.

STATE GRANT RECEIVED!!!

The West Enola Fire Company recently received word that we were approved for our 2013 grant.
The funding we are receiving is being put towards the purchase of two tablet PC's with software that will enable us to do incident pre-planning, as well as mapping, and provide instant navigation capabilities.

 

Three Receive Interior

West Enola would like to extend a congratulations to Bradley A Rott, Scott E. Bowman, and Michael Boruta for completing the requirements for Interior Fire Fighter.  Well done boys and keep training.
 

Auto Accident

On September 21st the 19-01 box was struck for an auto accident with minor injuries at the corner of Southmont and Wertzville.  E19 arrived and assisted with patient packaging, R20 & T2-17 handled vehicle stabilization. 

 

Lower Paxton House Fire

On Sunday September 16, the tanker and a crew of four assisted in Lower Paxton with a house fire.  Due to the home being roughly half a mile away from any hydrant; water delivery was an issue.  A tanker shuttle was introduced early on and T19 was requested. 

 

House Fire in Perry County

On September 6th around the hours of 05:45, Engine and Tanker 19 were dispatched to assist on Firehouse Road (Penn Township) for a house fire.  While on the street Engine 19 (Lt. Percherke) was given the assignment of fill site operations.  The engine found a hydrant roughly 2-3 miles south of the incident and operated a fill site for tankers.  Tanker 19 (Chief Bartolo) was requested at the scene for rural water movement, fire suppression, and extensive overhaul.  The tanker made several runs to the fill site.  West Enola would like to thank Washington Fire Department Co. 28 of Mechanicsburg for the Transfer to our station. 

Transfer Assignment

 On August 14th around 04:20 hours, Engine 19 started a transfer assignment to Camp Hill Fire Department (14) while they operated at New Cumberland's second alarm house fire.  The early morning crew had a quiet morning at the 14 house before returning around 05:00 hours.

 

Gas Leak at Giant Food Store

On August 8th, EPFD responded to 310 East Penn Drive for a odor of gas inside.  Engine 19 and Truck 1-17 arrived on scene first and started the interior investigation.  During the investigation FF Dave Colyer of T17 found a open stove top.  Findings were relayed to Chief 19 (Bartolo) and ventilation process was started.   

 

Tuesday Night Training

On July 25th, crew members got the chance to refresh their pumping skills.  Engine, Tanker, and Utility all went down to a nearby creek for some drafting operations.  Pump operators flowed water with a blitz gun, simple landline and deck gun. 

 

 

Chicken BBQ

Stop in on Saturday July 21st starting at 10am for our locally famous BBQ Chicken!  Dinners are $8.00, and a half chicken only is $4.00.  Dinner consists of 1/2 chicken, baked potato, roll, butter, and applesauce.

Carnival Time!!!

Comedy Night August 11th!

West Enola Fire Company, in conjunction with Midway Fire Company and the Goodwill Fire Company of West Fairview are proud to announce a night of comedy with Earl David Reed.  The show starts at 8:00pm.  Tickets are $15 each.  Soda and snacks will be provided, and it is a non-smoking BYOB event.  Please call the firehouse at 732-1919 for tickets.

House Fire in the 20 box!

Around 20:43 hours on July 18th, the first alarm assignment was dispatched to Wyoming Avenue for smoke in a duplex.  Engine 19 arrived on scene and crews began to assist with searching for the source of the smoke.  After extensive searching, Chief 19 (Bartolo) and Firefighter Bill Brougher Sr. (20) discovered the fire in what was thought to be the exposure building.  Crews assisted with extensive overhaul, as the the fire was in the ceiling area between two rooms.

Two Tanker Runs

On Tuesday April 10th, Tanker 19 was dispatched to I-83 southbound for a dump truck fire.  Tanker 19 went responding with two; the dump truck was carrying hay, the operator dumped his cargo on the interstate for extinguishment. Tanker 19 supplied Engine 2-13 with water.       

Around noon, Tanker 19 was dispatched to 2040 Fishing Creek Valley Rd in Dauphin County for a brush fire.  Tanker established two personnel and assisted with rural water movement.  Tanker driver (FF Stone) made several tanker runs while Lt. Percherke assisted Brush 29 (Halifax) with fire suppression.

 

  

Busy day for the 19 crews!

On Wednesday March 8th, Engine 19 took in five runs.  The first two were in 19 boxes for back-to-back AFA's - literally going available from the first call at 13:39:18 and being dispatched for the second at 13:39:29 - 8 seconds apart!
Later in the day crews headed into West Fairview for smoke in a structure.  As the evening wore on, crews went to a gas odor call at The Caddyshack in Hampden Township, and a little later on took in smoke in a structure in a Camp Hill box.

Fire in 20 Box

On March 5th, shortly after cleaning up from the chimney fire (below) EPFD personnel were alerted of smoking coming from the rear of a family dwelling.  Chief 5B advised a working fire on side C & basement.  Engine 19 arrived on scene and made connection with the hydrant at E. Columbia & South Enola.  Our crew of six then slip up doing various tasks on the fire ground.  A quick and aggressive knock was made by E-20.

 

Smoke from Commercial Building

On March 5th, Engine 19 responded to Wertzville RD & South Enola Dr. for a report of "black smoke" coming from the roof of a commercial structure.  Engine 19 arrived on scene and took side C.  Personnel setup ladders and pulled chimney kit while other EPFD personnel made entry.

 

Mutual Aid House Fire

On February 15th, Engine 19 was dispatched for a working bedroom fire in Hampden (Co. 30) district.  A crew of five assisted with fire suppression, ground ladders, and extensive second floor overhaul.  An aggressive fire attack was made by first arriving units; Engine 37 and Engine 2-30. 

 

Holy Spirit AFA

On February 8th, E-19 responded to Holy Spirit Hospital for an automatic fire alarm.  Upon arrival Chief 2-21 (Hipple) requested the engine to connect with the stand pipe, and send additional personnel to third floor for the initial investigation.  After a thorough investigation was completed, nothing was found, information was relayed to Chief 2-21 and units went available.

EP Township Training

On February 7th a township training was held.  The topic of the night was properly using and securing ground ladders.  Members also got the chance to operate T-17 (Midway).  Other companies in attendance were Creekside (Co. 21), West Fairview (Co. 16), Midway (Co. 17), and Summerdale (Co. 20). 

Forcible Entry Training

Brothers from Monroe (Co. 25) came down with their forcible entry equipment tonight, and allowed us to refresh our entry skills.  Thanks again to Chief 25 (Heckert) and Chief 2-25 (Murphy) for their time and knowledge.

Dauphin County Building Fire

 On January 18th just before 8am, Cumberland County dispatched Tanker 19 for a building fire in Middle Paxton Township (Dauphin) on Water Gap Rd at the Aces bar and restaurant.  The tanker's crew of three assisted with fire suppression and extensive overhaul before being placed into service.
 

BINGO

Come out and joins us Monday nights for some good old-fashioned cash bingo.  Doors open at 5:00, games start at 6:45.  Free dinner for all players (meal varies each week).  Packages starting as low as $18 for 9 cards.  Payouts based on the number of players.  $275 and $500 starting jackpot for 2 blackouts.
