First Due Chimney Fire and a Gas Odor?

03-20-08- At 2042 hours the 19-01 box was sent for the chimney fire with extension at 45 Sherwood Circle.  Chief 19 (Dressler) arrived and was advised by FF Stone that there was no extension and most of the fire was out.  Crews removed the remaining fire from the fire box and ran the chains to unblock the chimney while another crew double checked for extension.  Then at 2332 hours Co 19 and Truck 17 were sent to 3 Fashion Circle in the 19-01 box to assist UGI with gas meters.  UGI was called for an odor inside and he was getting up to 300ppm of CO around the chimney clean out.  After a little investigating it was determined that there was a fire in the chimney above the clean out and also a fire above the damper.  Truck 17 set up and dropped a few chimney bombs while the Engine crew removed the debris.

Starting the new year off right....

01-05-08 - The first week of the new year is starting off the right way.  On January 2nd we were notified that we were awarded $20,240 from PEMA.  This money is being used to supplement a $27,000 bill for all new hose for the engine and tanker.  Then on Friday, January 5th we received notification that we were awarded $31,000 from the Department of Homeland Securities Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.  This money will be used to buy 14 new sets of turnout gear and 20 new pagers.  While it is great to receive this money, we still rely on the support from our community to survive.  Out of this money, the company still has to lay out about $10,000 to cover the expenses of these purchases.  Our yearly fund drive will be going out in the next month or two, so please support us and remember any donation is tax deductible!!
